Zeller is dealing with a sore right knee, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.Zeller was recently invited to play with the USA Select Team, which trains with the USA National Team while they prepare for the Olympic Games. Despite the offer, Zeller had to withdraw his name, as he wanted to avoid any further complications. Considering the knee is only listed as sore, it doesn’t appear to be too serious and with training camp still months away, Zeller shouldn’t have a problem returning to full health prior to its start. Zeller spent the majority of his 2015-16 campaign in a starter’s role, but with Roy Hibbert joining the Hornets during free agency, it could mean a move back to the bench for the 23-year-old big man.
May 2, 2016
Zeller provided six points (3-7 FG) and seven rebounds across 17 minutes in Sunday’s 106-73 Game 7 loss to the Heat.Zeller looked a little gimpy in the last two games of the series due to a knee injury suffered in Game 5, but he was able to tough it out and give the Hornets some quality minutes off the bench. The former No. 4 overall pick served in a starting role for much of the season, but after being roughed up by Heat big man Hassan Whiteside for the first few games of the playoffs, coach Steve Clifford opted to go with Al Jefferson as his starting center for the rest of the series. Zeller’s reduced role down the stretch doesn’t seem encouraging for his prospects entering 2016-17, but he’ll still be coming off the best season of his career, during which he averaged 8.7 points and 6.2 rebounds.
April 27, 2016
Zeller left for the locker room with an apparent injury during the second quarter of Game 5 against Miami, and is questionable to return, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. It is unclear whether or not Zeller will return to the game. In Zeller’s absence, Spencer Hawes, Frank Kaminsky, and Al Jefferson may see a slight boost in playing time.
April 26, 2016
Zeller tallied eight points (3-4 FG, 2-2 FT) and four rebounds across 21 minutes in Monday’s 89-85 Game 4 win over the Heat.Zeller has come off the bench for the last two games of the series, but the move hasn’t really affected his minutes count. He’ll continue to essentially split the minutes at center with Al Jefferson, who logged nine points, five boards, and three assists over 26 minutes Monday.
April 23, 2016
Zeller will move to the bench for Saturday’s Game 3 against the Heat.To counter the Heat’s smaller starting five, Charlotte will go big in Game 3 with Al Jefferson, Frank Kaminsky and Marvin Williams comprising the starting frontcourt. Zeller and Jeremy Lin will both shift to the bench, with Kemba Walker and Courtney Lee starting in the backcourt. Zeller played only 14 minutes in Game 2 on Wednesday, finishing with eight points and five rebounds.

Zeller (chest) will be a game-time decision for Wednesday’s tilt with the Magic, Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer reports. The Hornets were listing Zeller as questionable heading into Wednesday, but it appears they’ve gained no clarity regarding his status following morning shootaround. With the playoffs waiting in the wings, it’s possible the Hornets may keep Zeller out for rest, in which case Al Jefferson would likely make another start at center. A final update on Zeller’s status one way or the other should come following pregame warmups.

Zeller (chest) is questionable for Wednesday’s matchup with the Magic, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.Zeller sat out Monday’s tilt with the Celtics due to a bruised sternum, and it looks as though there’s a chance that he could sit out Wednesday’s regular-season finale with limited playoff implications on the line for the Hornets. If Zeller is indeed held out of a second straight contest, look for Al Jefferson to get another turn as the starting center.

He and Frank Kaminsky should see increased roles in Zeller’s absence.

Zeller will miss at least the next week due to a sprained ligament in his left shoulder, the Hornets’ official site reports.Already missing his second game in a row due to the injury Saturday, the extent was confirmed via MRI. Considering this is something he’s played through during his last two games, it likely isn’t too serious and he should be back in action pretty quickly if he isn’t able to play Friday. As of Monday afternoon, it seems unlikely that Zeller is available Tuesday against Chicago.

Zeller (illness) is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s game against the Bulls.Zeller has been suffering from dehydration the last couple of days, which resulted in him dropping about 10 pounds. Spencer Hawes could absorb some of Zeller’s minutes off the bench if that’s the case.

Zeller (shoulder) has resumed shooting activities after undergoing right shoulder surgery to repair a tendon in April, the Charlotte Observer reports. “He did a great job – everything he could have done with the rehab,” coach Steve Clifford said. “He’s been on the floor for the last seven weeks, doing a lot of shooting.”Zeller marginally improved during his sophomore season, and much of that can be attributed to playing an additional seven minutes per game. He struggled finishing around the rim, and his mid-range game is in dire need of an upgrade. The addition of three-point shooters Frank Kaminsky and Spencer Hawes jeopardizes Zeller’s role on the team, and his fantasy potential will likely be capped by his playing time.

Zeller could be in danger of seeing his role on the Hornets diminish with the selection of Frank Kaminsky in the 2015 NBA Draft. The Hornets frontcourt has become pretty crowded over the last couple of weeks with the selection of Kaminsky and the acquisition of Spencer Hawes. Zeller managed to average 24 minutes in 62 games last season, but either Kaminsky or Hawes could easily win the starting power forward job outright before the season begins. Given, Kaminsky is unproven and Hawes is coming off a terrible season with the Clippers, but Zeller will have to prove that he deserves the lion’s share of minutes alongside Al Jefferson at center, proving a tough task ahead.

Barring a setback, Zeller should be ready for full contact well before training camp.

Zeller, after playing all 82 games in his rookie season, played just 62 in his sophomore campaign after a shoulder sprain he suffered from in early March cut his season short, but he still managed to show drastic improvements on both sides of the floor in 2014-15. Zeller finished the season with averages of 7.6 points and 5.8 rebounds in 24 minutes per game. There were a lot of questions surrounding Zeller as he entered his second NBA season, as most weren’t sold on Zeller’s ability to be a legitimate power forward in the league. He still struggled scoring the ball through most of the season, but he was consistently aggressive on the boards and a solid defender in the post who was agile enough to move across the floor. The highlight of Zeller’s season was his career night where he managed a career-high 20 points on 8-of-8 shooting and seven rebounds in 33 minutes in a win against the Celtics. Additionally, just before he went down with the shoulder injury, Zeller put together a six-game stretch where he scored in double figures in every outing and averaged 12.2 points and 7.3 rebounds over that stretch. So, while Zeller was not consistently effective this past season, he did show quite a bit of promise. Zeller, however, is not set in stone as the team’s power forward of the future, as rookie power forward Noah Vonleh also showed promise towards the end of the season. Both bring great size and athleticism, and with the two of them likely to both be on the team for the next couple of seasons, it’ll be interesting to see who emerges as the favorite to hold the position for the foreseeable future. If Zeller wishes to outlast Vonleh, he will need to work on his jump shot, something Vonleh already has in his arsenal, and Zeller has said he has been practicing stretching his game out to the three-point line and is becoming more comfortable on the outside.

Zeller (shoulder) won’t play Monday in Utah and likely won’t suit up Tuesday at the Clippers, the Charlotte Observer reports.Zeller will miss his third, and perhaps fourth, game in a row due to a sprained right shoulder suffered last Monday. Because he isn’t responding sufficiently to treatment, there’s no telling when he may be healthy enough to return to action. With Al Jefferson (knee) active and starting Monday, Marvin Williams will likely get the nod at power forward, while Bismack Biyombo picks up additional run off the bench.

Zeller (shoulder) will not play Friday and he remains questionable for Monday’s game against the Jazz, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.Zeller suffered a sprained right shoulder Feb. 9 and will miss a second straight game Friday. At this point, he appears doubtful to play Monday. The Hornets begin a five-game road trip Monday, so whether or not he travels with the team should give us a better indication of when he might return. In the 44 games he has played this season, Zeller has averaged 7.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.8 blocks over 24 minutes per game. With Al Jefferson (calf) injured, Bismack Biyombo and Marvin Williams will most likely be the Hornets’ starting frontcourt Friday. Williams (averaging 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.4 blocks over 25 minutes per game this season) could be a good pick-up while Zeller is out.

Zeller (shoulder) will play Saturday against the Knicks. The shoulder injury sidelined Zeller for just one game, so there shouldn’t be too much concern about him having to shake off any rust. The second-year big man has ratcheted up both his scoring and rebounding over his first four January contests, averaging 12 points and six boards over about 25 minutes of action. With Al Jefferson still out of commission, Zeller figures to see heavy run and makes for an intriguing play in daily formats Saturday against a hapless Knicks defense.
