Schroder won’t play for his native Germany this summer, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The German national team didn’t qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but the team was set to compete in qualifying play in August for EuroBasket 2017. Schroder said he still intends to suit up for Germany in the 2020 Olympics if the team qualifies, but for now, the 22-year-old will turn his attention to getting ready for the upcoming season with the Hawks. After serving as a backup to Jeff Teague in his first three NBA campaigns, Schroder is set to ascend to a starting role in 2016-17 and should be in line for a big jump in production after averaging 11.0 points, 4.4 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 steals across 20.3 minutes per game last season.
June 22, 2016
With the Hawks trading Jeff Teague to the Pacers on Wednesday as part of a three-team deal, Schroder appears to be in line to open the 2016-17 season as the team’s starting point guard. The Hawks had been entertaining offers for both Teague and Schroder dating back to this past season’s trade deadline, but ended up holding on to both point guards in anticipation of a deep postseason run. The team ultimately got bounced by the Cavaliers in a four-game sweep during the second round of the playoffs, and could be looking to reconfigure their roster with Teague now out of town and Al Horford potentially departing as a free agent this summer. While Schroder could have less talent around him next season, the fact that his path to playing time is now unimpeded should result in a healthy surge in his counting stats. Per 36 minutes last season, Schroder averaged an impressive 19.5 points, 7.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 three-pointers and 1.6 steals a game.
May 8, 2016
Schroder came off the bench to lead the Hawks with 21 points (10-18 FG, 1-3 3Pt) in addition to six assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block in 26 minutes during Sunday’s loss to the Cavaliers.Schroder assumed a larger role due to his success combined with the struggles of Jeff Teague, and it was he who was stymied by LeBron James on a last-minute drive that could have given the Hawks the lead. The German played more minutes than Teague twice in the series en route to averages of 15.3 points and 4.8 assists in just 20 minutes per game, and he could step into a starter’s role next season if the club elects to move the latter this offseason.
May 2, 2016
Schroder exploded for 27 points (10-20 FG, 2-2 FT, 5-10 3Pt) to go along with 6 assists and three rebounds in just 29 minutes during Monday’s Game 1 loss versus Cleveland. The 22-year-old was in attack mode Monday, and his success, combined with Jeff Teague’s struggles, saw him receive a seven-minute playing-time advantage over the latter. Schroder should continue operating as a sixth man for Atlanta, but it appears coach Mike Budenholzer will not be shy about thrusting him into a larger role if necessary.
April 29, 2016
Schroder poured in 12 points (5-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and added eight assists and three rebounds over 23 minutes in Thursday’s 104-92 series-clinching victory over the Celtics. The proficient sixth man looked to be free of any issues with the ankle that had bothered him earlier in the series, and received his highest allotment of playing time in the first round. Schroder produced what may have been his best all-around effort of the series, displaying a particular proficiency with his ball distribution on the night. The third-year pro had a reduced role in last year’s four-game sweep at the hands of the Cavaliers in the conference finals– when he averaged only 5.8 points per game over 13.3 minutes– but could see his role increase in this year’s go-around with Cleveland beginning Sunday night.

Schroder (ankle) is considered probable for Sunday’s Game 4 against Boston, KL Chouinard of Hawks.com reports.Schroder played through the ailment in Game 3, finishing with 20 points and two assists in 22 minutes. Schroder’s treatment during the week seemed to do the trick, as he performed admirably in his 22 minutes on Friday, this after scoring only eight points in 31 minutes combined during the first two contests this series.

Schroder (ankle) went through shootaround Friday morning, but remains questionable for Game 3 against the Celtics, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Schroder missed practice Thursday to get treatment on his sprained left ankle, so by participating in shootaround Friday, it appears he’s trending in the right direction. We likely won’t see a final decision on his status until closer to tip off, but he should continue to be considered questionable in the meantime. If Schroder is forced to sit out, Kirk Hinrich would likely see an elevated role as the back up to Jeff Teague at point guard.

Schroder (ankle) announced that he will play Friday for Game 3 against the Celtics, Chris Vivlamore of the AJC reports.Schroder sat out of practice earlier in the week after he left Game 2 with an ankle injury and missed the remainder of the contest. He has received treatment on his ankle throughout the week and was able to get through Friday’s shootaround without incident. He claims he will play Friday, and if that is indeed the case, Schroder figures to be one of the more heavily used Hawks off the bench.

Schroder didn’t practice Thursday while he received more treatment on his sprained left ankle, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Schroder is still expected to play in Friday’s Game 3 matchup with the Celtics, so it seems like his absence from practice Thursday was mainly for precautionary purposes. If active Friday, Schroder would likely take on his usual role as the top backup at point guard to starter Jeff Teague.

Schroder (ankle) is questionable for Friday’s game against the Celtics, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reports. After missing practice Thursday while receiving treatment for his sprained left ankle, Schroder has been downgraded to questionable to appear in Friday’s game. Though the missed practice could have signaled a precautionary measure to avoid further injury in a non-game setting, Schroder’s status should be kept a close eye on. Should Schroder miss Friday’s game, look for Kirk Hinrich to backup Jeff Teague at the point guard spot.

Schroder has “made progress” since departing Tuesday’s Game 2 win over the Celtics with a left ankle injury, per coach Mike Budenholzer, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Budenholzer went on to downplay the injury, telling the assembled media that it’s “not something real serious.” That’s certainly good news for Hawks, who have two days off before heading to Boston for Game 3 on Friday. For now, Schroder should be considered day-to-day for the contest, but it appears he’s trending in the right direction as the next game approaches.

Schroder had an MRI performed following the game, which game back negative, so it appears he’s avoided anything serious. The Hawks don’t play again until Friday, but Schroder should be considered questionable for that outing until further information is provided.

Schroder will not play in Germany’s match against Poland on Saturday due to an ankle injury, KL Chouinard of NBA.com reports. There was no report on the severity of the issue or how the injury occurred. Given this is a friendly match, Schroder resting an injury of any kind would be the best course of action. He’s been competing with the German International Team this summer alongside the Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki in preparation for EuroBasket wich begins on September 5th, and Schroder may be restricted until then.

While Schroder’s return date is unknown, it’s also unclear how much he’ll be involved for the remainder for the regular season. As a result, the German’s fantasy value can’t really be relied upon for the stretch run. Expect Shelvin Mack to fill some of Schroder’s minutes behind Jeff Teague at point guard for the Hawks.
