Dudley is expected to open the upcoming season as the Suns’ starting power forward, Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic reports.During the latter half of last season, the Suns experimented with a starting frontcourt of Alex Len and Tyson Chandler, but since both of those players are natural centers, upgrading the power forward spot was a top priority for the organization. The Suns did just that during the draft in June by selecting Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss with top 10 picks, but since neither player is expected to be a major NBA contributor right away, Dudley was brought in on a three-year, $30 million contract to serve as a placeholder at the position. His ability to stretch the floor and guard both perimeter and interior players should earn Dudley plenty of minutes right off the bat, but look for his role to decline as the season rolls along and Bender and Chriss presumably begin to find their footing in the NBA.

Dudley agreed to a three-year, $30 million deal with the Suns on Friday, the Arizona Republic’s Paul Coro reports. The 30-year-old combo forward shot 42 percent from three-point range last year with the Wizards and has always been a team-first complementary player, the likes of which the Suns could really use as they prepare to hand the keys of the franchise over to a collection of youngsters. Dudley’s playing time could decrease as the season goes on, as Phoenix is unlikely to contend for a playoff spot, but his shooting percentages should be solid and he could average close to a steal per game.

Dudley played a key role during the 2015-16 season, averaging 25.9 minutes per game and starting 41 times for the Wizards.Dudley contributed 7.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest over 81 total games this season. This output mirrors Dudley’s performance last year with Milwaukee during the 2014-15 season in which he averaged 7.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. His consistency should make him worth a look in the final rounds of standard leagues. However, his value could fluctuate depending on where he ends up, as he heads into free agency this summer.

Dudley will draw the start in Monday’s matchup with the Nets.Markief Morris will not play in this one, which has left the power forward position available for Dudley. It has been reported that Nene Hilario also may not play even though he is suiting up. If that is the case Dudley should see a relatively high workload in this outing.

Dudley delivered 11 points (4-7 FG, 2-2 FT, 1-1 3Pt), seven rebounds, four steals, three assists and a pair of blocks in 29 minutes during Sunday’s win over the Hornets. The veteran had played fewer than 20 minutes in each of his previous seven games, but he took advantage of some extra playing time to deliver this fantasy-friendly effort. John Wall (knee) sat out again Sunday, and Dudley could feasibly see a bump in minutes for as long as he remains sidelined.

Dudley (back) said Monday that he expects to play in a preseason game this week, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.Dudley returned to practice as a full participant last week, but he’s yet to appear in a preseason game as he works back from offseason lower-back surgery. The veteran said he hopes to play Wednesday, but if he’s held out he’ll target Friday’s matchup with Toronto.

Dudley (back) was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, CSN Washington’s J. Michael reports.Dudley said his back felt great and experienced no renewed pain while he took full contact for the first time in training camp. It has yet to be determined how much time Dudley will see during the remainder of the preseason, but the veteran wing believes he’ll be able to suit up in the team’s final two exhibitions. If all checks out well during those outings, Dudley could quickly emerge as one of coach Randy Wittman’s top options off the bench as a backup to starting small forward Otto Porter or as a stretch four option behind power forward Kris Humphries.

Dudley (back) is expected to practice Wednesday without facing any restrictions, J. Michael of CSN Washington reports.Dudley, who has sat out the Wizards’ entire preseason schedule after undergoing surgery in the offseason to repair a bulging disc, has been trending toward a return to full practice by increasing his activity from non-contact work to partial participation in drills. The Wizards have yet to determine if Dudley will take part in any of the team’s final four exhibition games, but in any event, it’s looking quite likely that he’ll be available off the bench for the start of the regular season.

Dudley (back) took some contact during Thursday’s practice, CSN Washington’s J. Michael reports. It was the second consecutive day Dudley was able to absorb some contact, showing that he’s making progress in his recovery from offseason surgery on his lower-back area. The Wizards expect him to return to full practice at some point next week, after which he may be cleared to appear in preseason action.

Dudley (back) is unlikely to resume practicing fully with the Wizards until Oct. 13, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports. With that timetable in mind, Dudley can be safely ruled out of the Wizards’ next two exhibition games after he missed Tuesday’s preseason opener against the 76ers. If the schedule holds, Dudley would still be able to get in two weeks of practice time in advance of the regular season, likely making him available for the Oct. 28 opener with the Magic. However, because of the time he’s already missed, Dudley seems unlikely to pose much of a threat to Otto Porter for the starting role at small forward.

Dudley indicated Monday that he could be back in time for the Wizards’ season opener, the Washington Post reports.Dudley is 10 weeks clear of back surgery, and he said at Monday’s media day that he’s no longer facing many limitations. “I basically can do everything I want to on the court and then now it’s basically just listening to the doctors at that 12-week mark,” Dudley said. “I’ll probably do 70, 80 percent. The only thing I won’t do is full contact, full court. And then once that 12-week mark goes, I’ll let go and do full speed. And once the coaches see how I am at 12 weeks, hopefully I can play a preseason game. I expect to be back, if not at the beginning of the season, one or two weeks into the season.” It looks as though Dudley will be limited for most of training camp and into the preseason, but if he doesn’t run into any roadblocks, the veteran has a chance to be on the floor when the Wizards open up against the Magic on Oct. 28.

Dudley had surgery to repair a herniated disc in his lower back on Tuesday and is expected to miss 3-to-4 months, the team announced.Dudley was recently traded from the Bucks to the Wizards and there is now a chance he misses the start of the regular season. Dudley was brought in to serve as a stretch-4 off the bench after the departure of Paul Pierce left Washington with a need for someone who can stretch the floor. Dudley is a career 40 percent three-point shooter and will likely be able to make an impact off the bench as soon as he returns. Should Dudley miss any games to start the 2015-16 season, that would make way for players like rookie Kelly Oubre, Otto Porter or even Drew Gooden to see more minutes on the court.
