A lot of big-name big men were available in the free-agent market this year, but the Minnesota Timberwolves acquired a mid-level center on Sunday, when Los Angeles Clippers’ backup center Cole Aldrich agreed to a three-year, $22 million deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Marc Stein of ESPN reported.
Aldrich will get considerably less money that other centers who recently agreed to terms with NBA teams, but Aldrich does not figure to be a major offensive weapon for the Timberwolves. They already have Karl-Anthony Towns, the rookie of the year this past season, and it is unclear whether Gorgui Dieng or Aldrich would slip into the starting lineup alongside Towns.
The 6-foot-11 Aldrich, 27, averaged 5.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 60 games, including five starts, this past season.
