Smith agreed to a three-year, $16 million deal with the Wizards Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.Smith has been a steady frontcourt rotation player for pretty much his entire eight-year NBA career, averaging 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds over 17.4 minutes per game. He’ll join a fairly crowded frontcourt, where he will likely be behind Marcin Gortat, Ian Mahinmi, Markieff Morris and Andrew Nicholson for minutes at both power forward and center. Overall, Smith’s impact with Washington this season will likely be limited barring any major injuries up front.
April 4, 2016
Smith missed his lone field-goal attempt in three minutes of action during the Magic’s 119-107 win versus the Grizzlies on Sunday.Smith committed three fouls in three minutes while seeing single-digit minutes for the second time in the last three games. Smith averaged 18 minutes per game in March, which is his most of any month in 2015-16, but Andrew Nicholson has been getting more burn lately. Furthermore, Nikola Vucevic is finally looking fully healthy, and Smith should be avoided in most fantasy formats.
March 12, 2016
Smith pitched in with 16 points (6-9 FG, 4-6 FT), seven rebounds, an assist, three blocks and two steals over 23 minutes in Friday’s 107-100 victory over the Kings.Moved to the bench in favor of Dewayne Dedmon on Friday, Smith responded with perhaps his best all-around effort of the season. He seemed determined to make the most of his time on the court, remaining highly aggressive on both ends of the floor. The eight-year veteran amassed five personals in his 23-minute stint, but also attacked the basket frequently. With Nikola Vucevic’s groin strain potentially lingering and Smith having now posted three straight double-digit scoring efforts, the latter makes for a highly speculative late-season option in deep season-long formats and daily leagues.
March 11, 2016
Smith will come off the bench in Friday’s matchup with the Kings.Smith had started the previous two games for the Magic with Nikola Vucevic out due to injury. The Magic have opted to go with Dewayne Dedom Friday instead, thus resulting in Smith playing a reserve role. Expect Smith’s minutes to dip back in the teens as opposed to the mid-twenties he had been seeing recently. It is unclear of the Magic will continue going this route with Vucevic out or not.
March 8, 2016
Smith had 13 points (6-12 FG, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, two steals, and one block in 23 minutes during the Magic’s 119-113 loss to the Warriors on Monday.Smith started and played pretty well in place of the injured Nikola Vucevic (groin) on Monday. The Magic are right back in action on Tuesday against the Lakers, and it seems unlikely that Vucevic will be ready to return that quickly. If this is indeed the case, Smith figures to earn another start, and could be a decent option in DFS.

Smith (knee) returned to practice Monday, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports.Smith missed the Magic’s previous four games with a sore knee, but his return to practice is an encouraging sign that he’ll be available off the bench for the team’s next contest Wednesday versus the Timberwolves. If that’s the case, Smith would likely assume most of the reserve minutes that have been going to Channing Frye of late.

  • Knee
Date: Nov 10, 2015
Status: OUT
Smith’s (knee) ability to return for Wednesday’s game against the Lakers remains undetermined, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports.Smith already missed Monday’s game against the Pacers with a minor knee injury, which was coupled with Nikola Vucevic’s ongoing absence with a knee injury as well. With both players unable to practice Tuesday, Dewayne Dedmon could be in store for another start Wednesday.

Smith is nursing a knee injury and won’t play Monday against the Pacers, Joshua Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.Smith tweaked his knee while attempting to take a charge late in Saturday’s game against Philadelphia, and while a postgame X-ray revealed no structural damage, he’s still battling considerable soreness. In his absence, Aaron Gordon and/or Channing Frye could pick up some extra minutes at power forward.
  • Ankle
Date: Oct 28, 2015
Status: OUT
Smith (ankle) has been cleared to play in Wednesday’s regular season opener against Washington, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports.Smith was questionable for Wednesday’s game after tweaking his ankle in Monday’s practice. Now that he’s cleared, the forward may get some play time but don’t expect him to see significant minutes since it appears he’s buried on the depth chart at both the power forward and center positions.
  • Ankle
Date: Oct 28, 2015
Status: OUT
Smith’s (ankle) status for Wednesday’s season opener against the Wizards remains uncertain, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.Smith tweaked his ankle in Monday’s practice but it’s not believed to be overly serious. • Ankle
Date: Oct 27, 2015
Status: OUT
Smith tweaked an ankle in Monday’s practice, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.Though the injury doesn’t sound like a significant one on the surface, Smith’s presence near the bottom of the Magic’s frontcourt depth chart may give reason for coach Scott Skiles to keep the big man inactive for Wednesday’s regular-season opener Wednesday against the Wizards. Even if Smith is deemed available to play, he’s not likely to see much more than 10 minutes of action.
