Stephenson is set to become an unrestricted free agent, as the Grizzlies opted to decline his $9.4 million team option for the 2016-17 season, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports. After averaging just 16 minutes with the Clippers for the first half of the 2015-16 season, Stephenson saw a vastly increased role in his final 25 games after being traded to the Grizzlies, posting averages of 14.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists over 27 minutes. Despite seeing improvements while playing with the Grizzlies, they’ve opted to let him go, but there’s still interest between the two sides to reach a mutually beneficial deal once unrestricted free agency begins. However, if Stephenson sees a higher contract offer elsewhere, he very well could bolt for the better deal.
April 24, 2016
Stephenson led Memphis with 26 points (11-19 FG, 4-5 FT) while adding three assists and a rebound in 35 minutes during Sunday’s series finale versus the Spurs.Born Ready brought his best effort as Memphis scrapped to stay alive in the postseason, equaling his scoring production from the previous three games combined. Despite Stephenson’s performance Sunday, he was ineffective in many areas for the majority of the series and averaged just 1.8 assists and 1.5 rebounds while adding one steal and no blocks. He is under contract for one more season in Memphis, and it will be interesting to see how his role shakes out next season when Memphis’ starters are all healthy.
April 18, 2016
Stephenson compiled 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 29 minutes during the Grizzlies’ 106-74 loss to the Spurs on Sunday.Stephenson was named as the X-factor by Grizzlies’ coach Dave Joerger during the weekend, and that translated into a team-high 29 minutes on Sunday. With Tony Allen (hamstring) ailing, Vince Carter drew the start at the two, but the aging veteran played just 19 minutes. Carter did score a team-high 16 points, but Stephenson is easily the team’s most capable two-way shooting guard. As a result, he seems likely to play fairly heavy minutes over the course of this series.
April 14, 2016
Stephenson managed 22 points (8-14 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), four assists, two rebounds and two steals over 35 minutes in Wednesday’s season-ending 125-104 loss to the Warriors. The 25-year-old swingman closed out the season in fine form, eclipsing the 20-point mark for the third time in a Grizzlies uniform. Stephenson seemed to relish the opportunity he received after being acquired by Memphis at the trade deadline, averaging 14.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.2 steals across 26.6 minutes over his 26-game stint with the team. With the Grizzlies missing key offensive pieces Mike Conley (Achilles) and Marc Gasol (foot) for the postseason, Stephenson appears primed for a key role on offense in support of Zach Randolph.
April 13, 2016
Stephenson recorded 11 points (4-11 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds, and three assists across 22 minutes during the Grizzlies’ 110-84 loss to the Clippers on Tuesday.Since receiving a surprise DNP-CD on Apr. 5 versus the Bulls, Stephenson has averaged 28 minutes per game in the last three contests. He is tallying 11.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and three assists in 27 minutes during five appearances in April. However, Stephenson matched his season high with 38 minutes this past Saturday versus the Warriors, and Wednesday’s season finale against Golden State provides the Grizzlies with opportunities to stop history from being made while moving up in the playoff picture.

Stephenson (wrist) is questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Timberwolves, Timberwolves radio announcer Alan Horton reports.Stephenson missed Monday’s game due to his sprained right wrist and he is again listed as questionable leading up to Wednesday’s contest. If he’s held out once again look for Tony Allen, Matt barnes, and P.J. Hairston to pick up his minutes.

Stephenson has been listed as questionable for Monday’s game against the Rockets with a sprained right wrist, Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. The extent of Stephenson’s injury is unclear, as it hasn’t seemed to hamper him the last two games, during which he’s tallied 33 and 18 points, respectively, in games against the Pelicans on Friday and Hawks on Saturday. With Mike Conley (Achilles) out through the end of March and Vince Carter (calf) also uncertain to play Monday, the Grizzlies have been counting heavily on Stephenson for increased minutes and usage, so his potential absence could loom large for the injury-ravaged squad. Should Stephenson fail to play on Monday, Briante Weber and Ray McCallum would likely handle all the minutes at point guard, while Tony Allen and P.J. Hairston would see increased time on the wing.

Stephenson (wrist) will sit out of Monday’s matchup with the Rockets, Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal reports.Stephenson was listed as questionable headed into Monday evening, but he participated in warmups and indicated he would be able to play. However, he may have suffered a setback because he is no listed as out for the evening. The Grizzlies’ lineup is already very thin due to injuries, so this certainly does not help things. Tony Allen and Matt BArnes should see a majority of the minutes on the wing with P.J. Hairston now seeing an increase in action.

Stephenson (wrist) is warming up with the intent to play Monday against the Rockets, Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal reports.Stephenson hasn’t actually missed any time off the court with his current right wrist sprain, and it appears it’ll stay that way as he plays through the pain on a Memphis roster currently decimated with injuries. If his last two outings are any indication of Monday’s game, expect Stephenson to see upwards of 30 minutes against Houston.

Stephenson (hip) was traded to the Grizzlies on Thursday along with a lottery-protected 2019 first-round pick in exchange for Jeff Green, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports.Stephenson will join his fourth team in three seasons after spending the first half of the 2015-16 campaign with the Clippers, with whom he averaged 4.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 15.8 minutes in 43 games. The 25-year-old’s stock has fallen since his days with the Pacers two years ago, but he could see more opportunities with the Grizzlies to make a larger dent in their rotation. He’ll likely come off the bench, but should push expected starting wings Tony Allen and Matt Barnes for court time. The Grizzlies will play their first game of the second half Friday against the Timberwolves, but Stephenson’s sore right hip could end up delaying his team debut.

Stephenson is sitting out of practice Wednesday with a sore right hip flexor and is considered questionable for Thursday’s game against the Spurs, Rowan Kavner of Clippers.com reports. There’s some speculation about the validity of the injury, as Stephenson has been the subject of recent trade rumors, and the team would obviously like to avoid an injury if they’re in the process of dealing him. The Clippers were apparently close to dealing him to Orlando for Channing Frye but, of course, that’s far from a done deal at this point. Moreover, until a trade goes down, we’ll have to take the Clippers at their word, so Stephenson should be considered questionable to play Thursday. The 25-year-old had just begun to assert himself as a viable member of the Clippers’ rotation before the break, having scored double-digit points in three of the team’s last seven games prior to the break. If he’s still on the roster and unable to play Thursday, Wesley Johnson and Paul Pierce would be asked to soak more court time.

The injury isn’t expected to limit him during Thursday’s practice.Despite its serious-sounding name, the condition is a rather minor one that won’t inhibit Stephenson in a significant way during training camp. He’s expected to practice fully Thursday and will likely be available to play in Friday’s preseason opener against the Nuggets.

Stephenson is considered questionable to play in Friday’s preseason opener against the Nuggets, Ben Bolch of the LA Times reports.Stephenson is dealing with pubic bone inflammation, and while he was not limited at Thursday’s practice, the Clippers have not yet decided whether he’ll be available Friday. With nearly a month until the regular season begins, the ailment should not impact Stephenson’s fantasy value.

Stephenson is slated to come off the bench for the Clippers next season, but if they don’t add any other starting-caliber players, coach Doc Rivers said they would use Stephenson as a starter and consider him an upgrade, the Clippers’ official site reports. It’s hard to imagine Stephenson being fantasy relevant on the Clippers next season unless their roster is shaken up considerably more. Austin Rivers will be an unrestricted free agent, but most people expect him to re-sign with the Clippers. Jamal Crawford’s contract is not guaranteed, but at just $5.7 million next season, he’s a steal, so the Clippers would likely only unload him if they can upgrade via a trade. Then, accounting for the fact that Chris Paul and Blake Griffin use a lot of possessions, it’s hard to see a path on the Clippers’ current roster where Stephenson could find enough possessions to be relevant in most standard leagues next season. Doc Rivers said he believes Stephenson can play three positions, so it’s possible his versatility could lead to a surprising amount of minutes. If the team fails to sign a starting-caliber small forward, Stephenson’s name is already on the waiting list.

Stephenson has been dealt to the Clippers in exchange for Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports. The deal, which has been rumored since Monday afternoon, will rid the Hornets of Stephenson after the guard signed as a free agent last summer. While he’s on an affordable contract, the mercurial Stephenson never appeared to find his niche in Charlotte, and he ended the season with averages of just 8.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 26.0 minutes. Stephenson shot a horrendous 17 percent from beyond the arc and was all but phased out of the rotation by season’s end. He’ll receive a fresh start with a Clippers team that was a game away from the Western Conference Finals, and in the process Los Angeles frees itself of Spencer Hawes’ burdensome contract. Stephenson is under contract for $9 million next season, but his contract includes a team option for 2016-17.

Stephenson was very disappointing in the first year of his new contract with the Hornets, playing in just 61 games and finishing with averages of 8.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 26 minutes. He also shot a dreadful 17 percent from behind the arc and fell completely out of the rotation at times towards the end of the season.Stephenson was one of the most highly touted free agents of the 2014 offseason after having a breakout 2013-14 season with Indiana. Unfortunately for himself and the Hornets, Stephenson could not live up to his previous season or what he was getting paid this season. This might have been a result of Stephenson missing 14 consecutive games early in the season with a pelvic sprain, but even when he was healthy, Stephenson just did not look like himself. It got to the point where Charlotte was doing everything they could to trade Stephenson, and while Brooklyn (Stephenson’s hometown) seemed like a possible suitor at one point, nothing was ever finalized and he finished the season as a Hornet. Although he wasn’t really much of a Hornet, as for the last two months of the season he averaged well under 20 minutes per game and was not a very significant piece of the team’s rotation. Best case scenario for Stephenson is that this season was a humbling experience and he will look to prove his worth next season. At just 24-years old, he has shown a lot of promise and still has a lot of room to grow, but with only one guaranteed year left on his contract, he will have to make sure his game grows as quickly as possible.

Stephenson is dealing with left knee tendinitis, making him questionable for Saturday’s game in Philadelphia. While his shooting percentages are still hideous, Stephenson has handled a significant role off the Charlotte bench since returning from a pelvis injury in mid-January. With the team lacking playmakers in Kemba Walker’s absence, Stephenson continues to get 20-to-30 minutes per game, and he’s looked a bit better over the last few contests. If he can’t play Sunday, the Hornets will likely use some combination of Gary Neal, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and P.J. Hairston to fill the minutes.

All four played in Friday’s game, and they all seem like good bets to play again Saturday. Still, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on, especially in the cases of Stephenson and Williams, both of whom recently missed games.

Stephenson (groin) managed to play 38 minutes Friday against the Suns and tallied 13 points (5-12 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. It was announced shortly before tipoff that Stephenson would play Friday despite suffering a previously unannounced groin strain earlier in the week. While that seems concerning at first glance, the fact that he was able to play 38 minutes and contribute in all categories is a good indication that he’ll be in the clear moving forward.

Stephenson aggravated his groin injury and is questionable for Friday’s game, the Charlotte Observer’s Rick Bonnell reports. This is the same groin injury that bothered Stephenson around the start of the season, and owners will need to monitor the situation leading up to the game. If he does play, he will be an excellent fantasy option, as Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (foot) has been ruled out.

Stephenson has had trouble scoring this season and responded to reporters about this by saying that “I’m just trying to get boards,” and “My offensive game is not coming. I’m working on that, learning how to score in this offensive system,” the Charlotte Observer reports.Stephenson is currently averaging 8.8 points per game compared to his 10.9 rebounds, so there’s certainly some truth to what he’s saying when considering that he’s the only guard in the top 25 for rebounds. His first season in Charlotte has gotten of to a rocky start but he’s at least contributing in other categories while he figures out his role in a team that features Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson as it’s primary ball scorers.
