DeRozan agreed Friday to re-sign with the Raptors on a five-year, $139 million contract, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports. The signing won’t become official until at least July 7, but after averaging a career-high 23.5 points per game last season, DeRozan is in line for a well-deserved hefty payday. The Raptors are also coming off the best season in franchise history, so keeping their All-Star backcourt of DeRozan and Kyle Lowry intact was general manager Masai Ujiri’s top priority this offseason.

DeRozan committed Thursday to play for Team USA in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports. It should be a busy summer for DeRozan, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and will be one of the top available players on the market. DeRozan, who averaged a career-high 23.5 points to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 78 games for the Raptors this past season, may have difficulty earning significant playing time with Team USA, as he’ll be a member of a deep wing rotation that includes Kevin Durant, Paul George, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler and possibly even more big names.
June 13, 2016
DeRozan will decline his $10.2 million player option for the 2016-17 season and become an unrestricted free agent, Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. With the salary cap expected to rise at the start of the new league year, DeRozan will opt out of his current deal, as he’s widely expected to receive a max offer while on the open market. The Raptors are the current favorites to re-sign him after enjoying their best season in franchise history, although there’s always a chance he decides to play elsewhere once other offers are brought to his attention. DeRozan is coming off a campaign where he averaged a career-high 23.5 points per game last season, so his contract remains priority number one for the Raptors moving forward.
May 28, 2016
DeRozan scored 20 points (9-18 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) while adding three rebounds and three assists in 42 minutes during Friday’s Game 6 loss to the Cavaliers. He and Kyle Lowry combined for 55 points, but no other Raptor managed even double digits as the Cavs took the series and booked their trip to the NBA Finals. DeRozan’s future remains uncertain, as free agency and a possible max contract looms this offseason, but if he does return to Toronto the team will need to add better pieces around their All-Star backcourt duo if they want to challenge Cleveland’s supremacy in the Eastern Conference.
May 24, 2016
DeRozan posted 32 points (14-23 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three assists, three rebounds and one steal across 40 minutes in Monday’s 105-99 Game 4 win over the Cavaliers.DeRozan’s back-to-back 32-point efforts have helped the Raptors even the series on their home court, and he was particularly instrumental in the fourth quarter Monday to salt the game away. He tallied 12 points in the final period, including a key bank shot with 1:33 left to push the Raptors’ advantage to four points. After hitting just 35.5 percent of his shots in the first two rounds of the playoffs, DeRozan has been much more efficient in the Eastern Conference Finals, tallying 26.0 points per game on 52.4 percent shooting from the field.

DeRozan (groin) now says he’ll be back in the lineup “sometime next week”, the Toronto Sun reports. “”I haven’t had any setbacks, I haven’t had any soreness. Everything feels good, I’m not in any pain,” DeRozan said on Wednesday. “I just don’t want to hop back out there. I think this is my third or fourth practice and I just really want to get a solid seven practices in and really get my rhythm and timing back.”Monday’s tilt against the Pistons, or Wednesday’s against the 76ers, would now seem to be the most likely games in which DeRozan would make his return from the groin injury he sustained November 28. His fantasy owners will just have to remain patient.
