Mills put up four points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal across 16 minutes in Tuesday’s 95-91 loss to the Thunder in Game 5 of the series. After averaging 20.5 minutes per game during the regular season, Mills has unsurprisingly seen his court time fall in the playoffs now that coach Gregg Popovich is leaning more heavily on his starters. Mills has only surpassed 20 minutes once in five games during the series, posting no more than five points in any contest.

Mills put up 16 points (5-8 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 2-4 FT) and two assists over 19 minutes in Tuesday’s 94-68 Game 2 win over the Grizzlies.Despite playing only 19 minutes in both of the first two games of the series, Mills has tormented the Grizzlies in two blowout victories for the Spurs, compiling a total of 31 points on 9-for-18 shooting from the field and 7-for-13 from three-point range. So long as the Spurs continue to blow the Grizzlies out of the water in the first half of games, Mills could remain a viable scoring source for the team through the remainder of the series.

Mills totaled 15 points (4-8 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 19 minutes during the Spurs’ 106-74 win against the Grizzlies on Sunday.Mills was marvelous on Sunday, showcasing his stellar outside shooting while filling it up nicely in the other categories. Through 53 playoff games, Mills has never seen more than 26 minutes, and he maxed out at 20 minutes during last year’s series versus the Clippers. Nevertheless, Mills is a superb spark plug, and one of the most capable contributors in the league as far as backup point guards go.

Mills managed seven points (1-5 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three assists, and one rebound in 16 minutes during the Spurs’ 102-98 win against the Thunder on Tuesday.Mills hasn’t been able to find the touch offensively during April. Through six games this month, he is averaging 6.8 points on 26 percent shooting to go with 3.5 assists, 1.2 threes, and 1.2 rebounds in 20 minutes. However, with Tony Parker and several Spurs’ regulars set to receive Wednesday’s game off, Mills seems likely to draw a start, and could be a worth a look as a cheap guard option in daily leagues.

Mills will come off the bench for Monday’s match up with the Grizzlies, Spurs beat writer Tom Orsborn reports.Mills started for a resting Tony Parker in Saturday’s contest. Parker is resting again Monday, but Andre Miller will draw the start instead. The Spurs are likely just playing around with lineup options to get the best feel for their team heading into the playoffs. Miller is not likely to play the same minutes that Parker does, so expect Mills to still see a slightly increased workload in this one.

Mills (shoulder) has been cleared to resume playing, but coach Gregg Popovich said he wouldn’t suit up Thursday against the Thunder and could still be held out for several more games, the San Antonio Express-News reports.Popovich said that he’ll take a conservative approach with working Mills back into the fold, as the team is determined not to rush him back too quickly and potentially aggravate the shoulder injury. Mills figures to resume practicing in full with the Spurs, but only Popovich will determine when his return occurs, which could be as soon as Friday’s game against the Pelicans or as late as a couple weeks from now. In any event, it’s huge news that Mills’ return at least seems to be in the offing, as it was initially feared that he could be out until deep into the second half when he first required rotator cuff surgery in July.
