Batum agreed to Friday to re-sign with the Hornets on a five-year, $120 million contract, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.Though he battled lower-body injuries for much of the second half of the 2015-16 campaign, Batum’s first season with the Hornets was an unquestionable success, as he averaged a career-high 14.9 points while chipping in 6.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.9 three-pointers and 0.9 steals per game in 70 appearances. The two-way swingman attracted interest as a free agent from several clubs, but the Hornets made bringing back Batum a top priority, and were able to submit a long-term commitment quickly. With the 27-year-old back in the fold and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (shoulder) expected to be healthy before the start of the upcoming season, the Hornets should boast one of the league’s best defensive combinations on the wing, allowing leading scorer Kemba Walker to focus most of his efforts on the offensive end.

Batum (foot) recorded 10 points (3-9 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, and two assists across 29 minutes in Sunday’s 106-73 Game 7 loss to the Heat.Batum, who has been bothered since late in the regular season by lower left leg issues, was able to fight through the pain and play his most minutes since Game 2, but it ultimately proved fruitless as the Hornets were soundly defeated. With the Hornets now officially sent packing, Batum should have the entire offseason to rest up and heal while entering free agency as an attractive commodity.

Batum (foot) is going through warmups with the intention of playing in Sunday’s Game 7 against the Heat, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.Batum aggravated a foot injury during Game 6 on Friday and continues to deal with some lingering pain. He’s attempting to give it a gofor Game 7, but even if Batum does take the court, the Hornets are only expected to rely on him for a maximum of seven or eight minutes per half. Since it appears Batum will be heavily restricted Sunday, DFS players will likely want to steer clear of him.

Batum (foot) will be available to play in Sunday’s Game 7 against the Heat.Batum was warming up earlier Sunday morning with the intention of playing, so it comes as no surprise he’ll be available to take the court. He’s going to see his minutes restricted though, as the Hornets reported they’ll likely limit him to just seven or eight minutes per half at the most. Considering the circumstances and limitations, fantasy owners may want to avoid using Batum until he sees further improvement with his foot injury.

Batum (foot) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s Game 7 against Miami, Justin Verrier of ESPN reports.Batum was removed from Friday’s Game 6 after sustaining what the team is calling a strained left foot. Batum, of course, missed Games 3 and 4 of the series with a left ankle sprain, so it’s possible the ailments are related. Regardless, Batum will rest and receive treatment Saturday with a more definitive update expected at shootaround Sunday morning.

Batum (ankle) is officially listed as a game-time decision for Wednesday’s Game 5 tilt with the Heat, but he took part in the Hornets’ morning shootaround and will most likely play.Coach Steve Clifford said that Batum will go through pregame warmups before a final ruling is made on his status, but given the swingman’s participation in shootaround, it looks like his left ankle sprain has noticed some considerable improvement. With Batum sitting out the past two games — both Hornets wins — it’s uncertain if Clifford will alter his starting lineup from those contests, which has featured Courtney Lee and Marvin Williams on the wings and Frank Kaminsky at power forward. As a result, Batum could end up coming off the bench for this one, but he should still receive as many minutes he can handle, as he’s arguably been the Hornets’ second-best player after Kemba Walker throughout the season.

Batum (ankle) is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s Game 5 against the Heat.Batum has missed the past two games with a left ankle sprain, but has made surprising progress with the injury after it was initially presumed he would miss the entirety of the first-round series. Look for an official decision on his status to come after Wednesday morning’s shootaround. Even if Batum is cleared to play, he may see his minutes restricted, as he could come off the bench if the Hornets choose to stick with the same starting lineup they’ve used in their last two wins, which features Marvin Williams at small forward, Frank Kaminsky at power forward, and Al Jefferson at center.

Batum (ankle) has been formally ruled out for Monday’s Game 4 against the Hornets.Reports surfaced late last week suggesting that Batum would likely miss the rest of the series, but he told reporters Saturday that his ankle made “surprising” progress, with swelling and pain subsiding significantly. As a result, the Hornets are now handling Batum on a game-to-game basis, though it’s unclear how realistic a return during this first-round series actually might be. Regardless of what happens Monday, the Hornets and Heat will play Game 5 back in Miami on Wednesday, a matchup that could end up being a potential clinching game for the home team if the Heat are able to take care of business in Game 4. In Batum’s absence Monday, the Hornets will stick with the same, larger starting lineup from Game 3 with Al Jefferson, Frank Kaminsky, and Marvin Williams in the frontcourt.

Batum (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday’s Game 4 against the Heat.Batum was recently quoted as saying his left ankle is “surprisingly much better”, so it appears he’s experienced some improvement with the injury in the last few days. After being considered doubtful for the rest of the playoffs, the drastic improvement has now given him an upgraded status to questionable prior to Game 4. He’s expected to get treatment Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, so we should hear more on his status following Monday’s treatment. The Hornets went big against the Heat on Saturday without Batum in the lineup, so if he ends up sitting out again, look for Marvin Williams, Frank Kaminsky and Al Jefferson to man the frontcourt.

He has experienced similar injuries to his ankle earlier in the season and it seems unlikely he’ll be ready to go by Saturday. Look for an official decision to be announced in the next couple days. Jeremy Lin is likely to take over at shooting guard if Batum is ruled out, with Jeremy Lamb, Courtney Lee, Troy Daniels, and Marvin Williams all possibly seeing extra minutes as well.

Batum (ankle) is expected to miss the remainder of Charlotte’s first round series against Miami, Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com reports.Batum sprained his right ankle during Wednesday’s Game 2 loss, and coach Steve Clifford revealed after the game that he was “very concerned” about the injury. While an X-Ray on Thursday revealed no structural damage to the ankle, Batum is dealing with considerable soreness and the team is not optimistic that he’ll be able to return in the near future. The Hornets find themselves in an 0-2 hole as the series shifts to Charlotte, and without Batum it will be even more difficult to make up ground.

Coach Steve Clifford said after Wednesday’s Game 2 loss to the Heat that he’s “very concerned” about Batum’s sprained left ankle, Justin Verrier of ESPN.com reports.Batum was quickly pulled from Wednesday’s matchup in the fourth quarter after spraining the ankle in what looked to be a pretty painful way. The 27-year-old, who missed the Hornets’ regular season finale with a sprain of the same ankle, looks questionable to play in Saturday’s Game 3, putting the team in a perilous spot while they trail 2-0 in the series. If the Hornets are ultimately forced to go without Batum on Saturday, Jeremy Lin would be the top candidate to enter the starting lineup at shooting guard, while Jeremy Lamb, Courtney Lee, Troy Daniels, and Marvin Williams could be forced to pick up more time on the wing.

Batum (toe) is listed as a game-time decision for Tuesday’s tilt with the Clippers.Batum recently got over a hand injury, but it’s the sprained toe that remains his primary concern at this time. The toe issue forced him to skip Tuesday’s practice, and the Hornets will wait to evaluate the swingman during pregame warmups before making a call on his status. With all of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (shoulder), Jeremy Lin (ankle), Spencer Hawes (back), and Al Jefferson (ankle) ruled out for the contest, the Hornets would only have 10 players available if Batum is ultimately sidelined.

Batum (knee) will not play Tuesday against Charlotte.Batum suffered a knee contusion late in Sunday’s win over the Nuggets. He was initially considered questionable to play Tuesday, which is encouraging, though the fact that he’s been ruled out well in advance of Tuesday’s tip indicates the contusion could be a bit more severe than originally anticipated. Consider Batum day-to-day going forward, with Dorrell Wright as the likely fill-in at small forward. Following Tuesday’s game, the Blazers play Wednesday in Denver then host the Nets on Saturday.
