Ariza was held to two points (1-8 FG, 0-7 3Pt), two steals, one assist, and one rebound across 29 minutes in Wednesday’s 114-81 Game 5 loss to the Warriors. It was an abysmal five-game series for Ariza, who delivered his worst performance precisely when the Rockets needed him most. Only James Harden (35 points on 12-of-23 shooting) seemed capable of getting anything going in Game 5, as the rest of his teammates combined to shoot a ghastly 19-for-72 (26.3%) from the field. Ariza failed to score double digits in any of the five games, finishing the series with averages of 6.6 points (on 25.5% shooting), 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 steals, 0.8 three-pointers, and 0.8 assists across 36.4 minutes.

SF Trevor Ariza was supposed to give the Rockets an advantage over the Warriors at small forward in the first-round playoff series. It didn’t work out that way. Ariza had a miserable series, never hitting better than 30 percent of his shots in any of the five games and shooting just 25.5 percent (13-for-51) overall. He saved his worst for last, a 1-for-8 game (0-for-7 on 3-pointers) in Wednesday’s season finale.

SF Trevor Ariza was supposed to give the Rockets an advantage in his matchup with Warriors SF Harrison Barnes, but it hasn’t worked out that way. And it has little to do with Barnes, who has totaled only 13 points in the series. Ariza hasn’t done much more, missing 14 of his 20 shots while contributing only 16 points to Houston’s cause. He also had five turnovers in the Rockets’ two losses.

Ariza posted 21 points (8-11 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 29 minutes during the Rockets’ 129-105 win versus the Timberwolves on Monday.Ariza has made 24-of-36 from the field over the last three games, including 11-of-19 from beyond the arc. Monday was just the eighth time this season that Ariza played fewer than 30 minutes, but it was due to the game being a blowout. The Rockets can clinch a spot in the playoffs with a win on Wednesday against the Kings, so Ariza should be expected to log as many minutes as necessary in the season finale.
