Sefolosha tallied 16 points (7-12 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 0-2 FT), six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block across 32 minutes in Sunday’s 100-99 loss to the Cavaliers in Game 4 of the series.Sefolosha’s second straight start of the series went much better than his first, as he surprisingly finished as the Hawks’ third-leading scorer on the day. The 32-year-old is a valuable rotation piece for his work on the defensive end, but scoring outings like Sunday are fairly rare for him. He’ll conclude the postseason with averages of 5.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and one steal across 20.2 minutes in 10 appearances.

Sefolosha (elbow) is in the starting lineup at small forward for Sunday’s Game 4 against the Cavaliers, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Sefolosha replaced Kyle Korver in the starting five in Game 3 and he’ll get the call again Sunday, despite also dealing with a laceration to his elbow. Coach Mike Budenholzer liked what he saw from Sefolosha in Game 3, as the swingman finished with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal over 29 minutes. With the Hawks on the brink of elimination, Sefolosha will attempt to provide a much-needed defensive boost to the team, as he’ll likely be asked to help defend LeBron James for portions of the game.

Sefolosha, who is officially considered probable due to a left elbow laceration, will likely remain in the starting lineup for Game 4 against Cleveland, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Hawks inserted Sefolosha in place of Kyle Korver in Game 3, and while they led for most of the game, they were unable to overcome a late Cavs and ultimately fell 121-108. Sefolosha played 29 minutes, finishing with eight points while helping to defend LeBron James for much of the night. Coach Mike Budenholzer stopped short of committing to starting Sefolosha again in Game 4, but he implied that he’ll likely stick with the same alignment. “I think just the energy and good play that Thabo started the game with and the energy and good play that Kyle brought off the bench, I think we felt like that was a positive and something that we will consider between now and tomorrow,” Budenholzer said. “But I think overall that was, in our eyes, something that was a positive.”

Sefolosha is considered questionable for Monday’s game against the Bulls due to right ankle stiffness.Sefolosha has occasionally been rested this season after undergoing surgery on his right leg last year, so him landing on Monday’s injury report with ankle stiffness doesn’t denote a new ailment. That being said, Sefolosha didn’t play in Saturday’s win over the Pistons, potentially putting him in line for another day off Monday. While Sefolosha’s status ultimately won’t be known until closer to tipoff, Kent Bazemore and Tim Hardaway appear poised for more extended run.

Despite the previous uncertainty over his status, Sefolosha seemed to make enough progress into Tuesday, that he’s now expected to play against the Hornets after missing just one game with a sore wrist. Sefolosha could be rested for Wednesday’s game against the Kings, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Since Sefolosha underwent ankle surgery in the offseason, the Hawks have been unwilling to use him in both games of back-to-back sets this season, and it’s uncertain if they’re planning to change that trend Wednesday. With Kent Bazemore (ankle) out Tuesday against the Nets, Sefolosha saw a season-high 30 minutes off the bench, so he may be coming into Wednesday a bit more weary than in the Hawks’ previous back-to-back scenarios this season. Bazemore is expected to remain out again Wednesday, though, which could ultimately force the team to keep Sefolosha active and play him again due to lack of attractive alternatives. Regardless of how things end up playing out, don’t expect a decision on Sefolosha’s status to be solidified until after pregame warmups are conducted.

Tim Hardaway, Jr., Kent Bazemore, and Dennis Schroder could all get extra minutes in Sefolosha’s absence. Looking ahead, the Hawks have two more back-to-backs over the next two weeks, so look for Sefolosha to sit out the second tilt in those games and possibly beyond if his ankle doesn’t improve.

He suffered a fractured tibia during the arrest, but seems to be nearing the end of his recovery timetable just as the new season is set to begin. The Hawks haven’t provided any verification that Sefolosha will make his preseason debut Wednesday, but at the very least, it doesn’t sound like the defensive-minded guard is going to be sidelined much longer.

He averaged 5.3 points, 0.5 three-pointers, 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.4 blocks, and 1.0 steals in 19 minutes per game through 52 games in 2014-15.The 31-year-old, who finished his ninth NBA season, is under team control through 2016-17. Sefolosha missed all of February and most of March with a calf injury before coming back for just seven games before missing the rest of the season due to a broken ankle he sustained in an off-court incident. Known as a defensive specialist, Sefolosha struggled to find consistency with his shot this season, averaging 42 percent from the field, 32 percent from three, and 78 percent from the free-throw line.
