F Luol Deng agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to reports Saturday. Deng had significant discussions with several teams, including the Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz, before committing to the Lakers, Yahoo Sports reported.
Deng, 31, averaged 12.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 74 games for the Miami Heat last season. The 6-foot-9 Deng was shifted from small forward to power forward when the Heat lost All-Star Chris Bosh in February for the second time to treat blood clots. Deng signed with the Heat in 2014 and replaced the departed LeBron James in the starting lineup. In 12 NBA seasons, Deng has averaged 15.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Chicago, Cleveland and Miami.

Deng agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal with the Lakers on Saturday, The Vertical’s Shams Charania reports.The Lakers had become something of a running joke through the first couple days of free agency, as few players seemed interested in taking their money. Deng, however, was willing to take the best offer on the table, joining a very young core of players. He averaged 12.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.4 blocks, 1.0 steals and 1.2 three-pointers in 32.4 minutes per game last year with the Heat, and it would not be surprising if he approached those numbers in his first year with the Lakers. Luke Walton’s offense will undoubtedly be faster paced than what the Heat ran last year, so perhaps Deng’s performance could even tick up. He will be worked in along with Brandon Ingram and Julius Randle in the two forward spots, and could start over one of the youngsters, at least initially.

Deng (wrist) totaled just two points (1-5 FG, 0-3 3Pt), eight rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot across 41 minutes in Friday’s 103-91 Game 6 win over the Raptors.Though he entered the night with his status on uncertain ground due to the bruised left wrist he sustained in Wednesday’s Game 5 loss, Deng was able to gut it out and play 39 or more minutes for the fifth time this series. Still, it appears the injury made him hesitant to look for his offense, as his five shot attempts were his fewest of the postseason. While he should be in line for sizable minutes once again in Sunday’s Game 7, Deng has been held under double-digit points in four straight games and doesn’t look like an alluring DFS option.

While he’s yet to be officially ruled out, he told reporters that he thinks he’ll be sidelined, which would leave Miami extremely shorthanded, as Dwyane Wade (hamstring) and Josh McRoberts (foot) are already ruled out.
