Olindo Mare has signed his franchise tender, according to NFL insider Adam Caplan.

RotoTimes.com: As a result, he'll make $2.814 million this next season. The veteran had a fine season in 2009 and should continue to be a borderline fantasy commodity.

According to the National Football Post, the Seahawks have placed the franchise tag on kicker Olindo Mare.

RotoTimes.com: Mare is now guaranteed $2.629 million for next season, and he earned it with his solid play in 2009. The usually inconsistent kicker was quite the opposite last year, hitting 24-of-26 field goals and closed out the season with 21 straight. He has a big boot, as referenced by his 22 touchbacks, and should be a solid fantasy kicker again next year.

Head coach Jim Mora still has faith in Olindo Mare after the kicker missed two field goal attempts in the Seahawks' close loss to the Bears on Sunday, according to the Seattle Times.

RotoTimes.com: Mare will remain the No. 1 kicker, but may be on a short leash when the club plays the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 4.

Olindo Mare hit four field goals in Week 3 against the Bears, but his head coach was more interested in the two tries that the kicker missed. "If you're a kicker in the National Football League you should make those kicks – bottom line. End of story. Period. No excuses. No wind, doesn't matter. You've gotta makes those kicks," Mora tells the Tacoma News Tribune. "We're not going to fight our ass off, and have a field goal kicker go out there and miss two field goals and lose a game. It's not going to happen."

RotoTimes.com: If you read through the lines, you'll find that Mora is not happy with Mare. Don't be too surprised if Brandon Coutu or another free agent kicker gets a call this week.

Olindo Mare will start the season opener Sunday against the Bills, according to the Seattle Times. The team kept Brandon Coutu on the roster, and he did not miss a field goal attempt in the preseason, but the Seahawks opted to go with Mare for Week 1. Mare held an edge for the job as he gets better distance on his kickoffs, and he said, "I know it was good for me to have a guy like Brandon in camp. I'm sure experience has something to do with it, and I'm sure kickoffs had a lot to do with it."

RotoTimes.com: the Seahawks will have to clear two spots on the roster next week when Rocky Bernard and Jordan Babineaux are eligible to return from suspension, and Coutu could be expendable. Mare merits fantasy consideration as a No. 2 kicker.
