Gerald Hayes underwent back surgery this summer, according to Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic.

RotoTimes.com: Hayes back injury was reportedly "fine" back in May, but if that's true then it must have gotten worse. The surgery date wasn't released, but it appears that Hayes won't be ready in time to start training camp next week. He's been bothered by a bulging disk since last season, and there was no immediate timetable given for his return.

ESPN.com reports that the Cardinals are concerned that linebacker Gerald Hayes' injured back did not improve much in the offseason.

RotoTimes.com: The Cardinals need Hayes to be a big part of their shallow linebacker corps. He should be ready to go all out by training camp, but if he's not, this is a red flag. He was expected to help ease the loss of Karlos Dansby.

The Arizona Republic reports that linebacker Gerald Hayes missed Tuesday's practice with a back injury.

RotoTimes.com: Hayes was plagued with a bulging disc last season, and it apparently is still hampering him. He's hoping to return to practice sometime this week, but it will be on a limited basis. Hopefully this doesn't hinder him for too long and jeopardize his start to the season.

It would be "wishful thinking" to think Gerald Hayes (ankle) will play on Saturday, according to the Arizona Republic.

RotoTimes.com: The starting linebacker will almost certainly be out, and replaced by Reggie Walker in the lineup.

Gerald Hayes (ankle) will most likely be out this Saturday when Arizona takes on the Saints in an NFC Divisional round playoff match-up, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

RotoTimes.com: Hayes had four tackles in Arizona's shootout win over the Packers last Sunday. Expect Reggie Walker to start in his place if he is indeed out.
