Our View:Mike Hessman will start at third in a routine day off for Wright. He'll be available to pinch hit and will be back in the lineup on Friday.

Our View:The extra-base hit was his fourth in 44 at-bats since coming off of the disabled list. Although he has struck out only seven times, he is still hitting just .227.

Johan Santana got knocked around by the Cardinals on Wednesday evening, allowing 13 hits and seven runs (six in the first inning) in just 5.2 innings of work, as the Mets lost 8-7 in 13 innings. He struck out just two while walking one.

Our View:The outing snapped a streak of 15 straight starts in which Santana went at least six innings. The bad night ballooned his 2.79 ERA to 3.11.
