Newsbreakers
Aramis Ramirez, 3B Friday 9/10, 2:51 PM CT
Aramis Ramirez (quad) is again out of the Cubs lineup on Friday, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Rototimes.com: Day-to-day, Jeff Baker will start in his place. He should be back in the lineup before the end of the weekend.
Randy Wells, P Wednesday 9/8, 10:13 PM CT
Randy Wells was hit nine times for four runs through six innings, picking up the loss as Chicago fell to Houston 4-0 Wednesday.

Rototimes.com: Wells walked two batters and allowed three doubles and a homer against only three Ks. He's given up four or more runs in five of his past eight starts, and his ERA has responded by jumping from 4.10 to 4.61.
Tom Gorzelanny, P Wednesday 9/8, 6:59 PM CT
According to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com, Tom Gorzelanny (hand) plans to throw a bullpen session this weekend.

Rototimes.com: The Cubs haven't given a timetable for a return. Gorzelanny suffered a small hairline fracture at the tip of his pinkie last week but says that his hand doesn't hurt when he grips or throws a ball.
Starlin Castro, SS Wednesday 9/8, 5:13 PM CT
Starlin Castro is back in Chicago's lineup Wednesday, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Rototimes.com: Castro's been benched in each of the past two games after making a mental error as a baserunner during Sunday's monumental 18-5 loss to the Mets. As long as he keeps his wits as a runner from here on out, he'll play.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B Wednesday 9/8, 2:40 PM CT
Aramis Ramirez (quad) remains out for the Cubs today, according to the team's Twitter page.

Rototimes.com: He remains day-to-day and is aiming to be back on Friday. Check back in on his status at that point.
Carlos Silva, P Tuesday 9/7, 10:37 PM CT
Making his first start since August 1 on Tuesday evening, Carlos Silva got hit hard by the Astros, allowing nine hits and six runs in just five innings of work. He struck out four and walked one in Chicago's 7-3 loss.

Rototimes.com: He now owns a 4.22 ERA and 1.27 WHIP through 113 innings pitched this season. Not scintillating, but world beating compared to the numbers he put up with the Mariners.
Tyler Colvin, RF Tuesday 9/7, 10:33 PM CT
Tyler Colvin went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Chicago's 7-3 loss to the Astros on Tuesday evening.

Rototimes.com: The multi-RBI game was his first since August 24 and 14th of the season. He will be in the Cubs outfield in 2011.
Justin Berg, P Tuesday 9/7, 3:55 PM CT
Justin Berg has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

Rototimes.com: In 34.1 innings of work earlier this season, he posted a 5.77 ERA and 1.63 WHIP. His use should be fairly limited down the stretch.
Sam Fuld, CF Tuesday 9/7, 3:41 PM CT
Sam Fuld has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

Rototimes.com: Twenty-eight years old, he owns a .276 average and .397 on-base percentage through 105 major league at-bats. He should be given a good luck in the Cubs outfield this month.
Jeff Samardzija, P Tuesday 9/7, 3:38 PM CT
Jeff Samardzija has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

Rototimes.com: Samardzija was a disaster for the Cubs before getting sent down in April, putting up a 18.90 ERA and 3.30 WHIP in 3.1 innings of work. Unfortunately for Chicago, he wasn't much better at Iowa, posting a 4.37 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 111.1 frames. Twenty-five years old, he is running out of major league chances.
Marlon Byrd, CF Monday 9/6, 4:55 PM CT
Marlon Byrd went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Monday afternoon, helping the Cubs to a 5-4 win over the Astros.

Rototimes.com: The bomb was his first since August 11. Named to his first All-Star team this summer, he is hitting .281 since the midsummer classic.
Starlin Castro, SS Monday 9/6, 11:47 AM CT
Starlin Castro is not in the Cubs' lineup today, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Rototimes.com: Castro made a mental mistake on Sunday, failing to run out a ground ball because he thought there were already two outs, resulting in him getting doubled up. Hopefully he learns his lesson today to always pay attention to every situation.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B Monday 9/6, 11:04 AM CT
Aramis Ramirez (quad) is out for the Cubs today, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer.

Rototimes.com: Aramis remains day-to-day. With the Cubs out of playoff contention, there's no need to rush him back.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B Sunday 9/5, 8:03 PM CT
Aramis Ramirez was forced to make an early exit from the Cubs' game on Sunday due to a sore right quad, according to MLB.com.

Rototimes.com: Consider him day-to-day for now. He's a bit of a risk for fantasy owners to start for next week, so feel free to go with somebody else if you have another decent option.
Ryan Dempster, P Sunday 9/5, 5:23 PM CT
Ryan Dempster got rocked by the Mets on Sunday, giving up seven total runs (three earned) over 4.2 innings.

Rototimes.com: Dempster allowed nine hits while issuing four walks. Dempster pitched a gem two starts ago against Washington but was knocked around by Pittsburgh his last start and was nearly as bad today.
Carlos Silva, P Sunday 9/5, 8:19 AM CT
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Carlos Silva (heartbeat) will be a on a pitch count in his return to the Cubs rotation Tuesday.

Rototimes.com: Not exactly a surprise. Silva threw 78 pitches in his last rehab start with Single-A Peoria, so his unknown pitch count will likely hover around that mark. It'll be his first big league appearance since August 1.
Carlos Zambrano, P Saturday 9/4, 3:22 PM CT
Carlos Zambrano gave up two runs over seven innings against the Mets on Saturday.

Rototimes.com: Zambrano gave up just four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. He's struck out at least seven in each of his past three starts and is 4-0 without giving up more than two runs in any of his six starts since rejoining the Cubs' rotation.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B Saturday 9/4, 3:19 PM CT
Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-5 with a homer against the Mets on Saturday.

Rototimes.com: Aramis has more homers (11) and RBI (38) in 44 games after the All-Star break than he had in 62 games before the break (10 homers and 32 RBI).
Carlos Silva, P Saturday 9/4, 11:24 AM CT
Carlos Silva (heartbeat) will start against the Astros on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Rototimes.com: He was originally scheduled to pitch on Monday but will go on Tuesday instead. Casey Coleman is now slated for Monday's start.
Alfonso Soriano, LF Friday 9/3, 4:43 PM CT
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI on Friday afternoon, helping the Cubs to a 7-6 win over the Mets at home.

Rototimes.com: He now has 22 home runs and 72 RBI through 125 games played. Not amazing numbers, but ones that are certainly better than the negativity surrounding his season would lead you to believe.
Carlos Silva, P Friday 9/3, 1:58 PM CT
Carlos Silva (heartbeat) is tentatively scheduled to start against Houston on Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Rototimes.com: We'd hold off on getting him back into our lineup, as he remains at risk to be scratched if things don't feel right entering the game.
Welington Castillo, C Friday 9/3, 11:22 AM CT
The Cubs have recalled Welington Castillo from the minors, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Rototimes.com: He'll serve as the team's third catcher behind Geovany Soto and Koyie Hill.
Marlon Byrd, CF Friday 9/3, 10:01 AM CT
Marlon Byrd (leg) is back in the Cubs' lineup today, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Rototimes.com: Byrd sat Wednesday with a sore leg, but the ailment does not appear to be an issue any longer. Get him back into your lineup.
Tom Gorzelanny, P Thursday 9/2, 5:27 PM CT
A CT scan on Tom Gorzelanny's left hand revealed a hairline fracture under his pinkie finger, according to Dave Van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune.

Rototimes.com: He'll miss at least one start, and there's a good chance he'll miss more. He suffered the injury after being struck by a comebacker Wednesday, and there's been no replacement named yet.
Tom Gorzelanny, P Wednesday 9/1, 5:19 PM CT
According to Paul Williams of the Chicago Tribune, X-rays on Tom Gorzelanny's left hand showed no displaced fracture.

Rototimes.com: Still, he'll have a CT scan on his left pinkie Thursday after leaving Wednesday's game due to unwanted contact with line drive on his left hand. We'll know more about his status for his next start after the coming test tomorrow.

Kosuke Fukudome, RF Wednesday 9/1, 4:50 PM CT
Kosuke Fukudome ripped two doubles and drove in a run in Chicago's 5-3 win over the Pirates Wednesday.

Rototimes.com: Fukudome also scored two times and went 3-for-3 with a walk. He's hitting .364 since the All-Star break with four homers over that time to pull his season mark to .281.
Carlos Marmol, P Wednesday 9/1, 4:48 PM CT
Carlos Marmol picked up the save for the Cubs with three strikeouts in a 5-3 win over Pittsburgh.

Rototimes.com: Marmol now has 25 saves on the season. Of course, he also walked three batters in his 1.1 innings. Still, he's allowed no runs in his past four outings after a three-run disaster against the Nats.
Tom Gorzelanny, P Wednesday 9/1, 2:16 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny was forced to exit the Cubs' game against Pittsburgh in the third inning after taking a comebacker off his hand, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Rototimes.com: It's a shame that he got hurt, as he was pitching well, failing to give up a run over 2.2 innings. Consider his status questionable for his next start.
Marlon Byrd, CF Wednesday 9/1, 10:30 AM CT
Marlon Byrd is not in the Cubs' lineup on Wednesday due to a sore leg, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Rototimes.com: The Cubs' outfield today is comprised of Alfonso Soriano, Tyler Colvin and Kosuke Fukudome. Look for Byrd to return to the Cubs' lineup on Friday following the team's day off tomorrow.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B Wednesday 9/1, 10:29 AM CT
Aramis Ramirez is not in the Cubs' lineup on Wednesday, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Rototimes.com: Jeff Baker will start in his place. Look for Aramis to be available as a pinch hitter and to return to the Cubs' lineup on Friday following the team's day off tomorrow.
